Last week we took Kate to Disneyland. I knew Leah would be miserable with a week of strollers and standing in line, so we took the opportunity to have some one on one with Kate. We had an amazing time, there is nothing more magical than Disneyland with a 4 year old! Kate was in heaven with the princesses and the alone time with mom and dad. We overlapped our trip with two other families, so we had different friends with us different days. The combination of perfect weather, magic, good friends, and my family made for a great trip!!

As a whole, 2010 was a hard year for a lot of people. Death, cancer, job loss, sadness all filled 2010. But for me, in my little world, things were good. I suffered along with my sick and grieving friends and family and felt a little more grateful for what I have. A hard working husband who loves me (and I love him); two amazing, adorable, healthy, spunky little souls; a solid family to call my own. Add in a stable job, a warm house, food on my table and I can't ask for anything more. Thanks 2010 for the memories!

Christmas

We were super excited for Christmas this year. For 6 weeks, I shopped, planned, wrapped and envisioned a perfect Christmas Day to include:

a fun filled family morning
a leisurely, yummy breakfast at grandma's
a good, restful nap
a delicious traditional dinner complete with rolls, ham, and funeral potatoes

This is how it really went:

a fun filled family morning starting with tears because Kate didn't hear Santa
a brand new, hot pink nail polish spilled on the carpet
a three year old's try at covering the evidence
a lecture
more tears
a hour late to grandma's
yummy breakfast with cinnamon pull apart rolls an hour late because we were a hour late
a shortened nap
forgotten rolls never set out to raise because of the nail polish event
forgotten corn flakes on the funeral potatoes
barfing three year old from 5:00 pm til 4:00 am

Oh well, I wouldn't miss a Christmas with my family for anything!

Halloween

We had a great Halloween and were only slowed a little by the bad weather. We had our annual family pumpkin carving dinner and trick or treating with our friends. Kate had two costumes because she was less than happy about the butterfly I picked out for her, but was a good sport and wore it for trick or treating. Leah was just excited to see the other kids come to our door!

On Wednesday, I was driving home from work and a sweet 16 year old girl tried to turn into Foothill Village during rush hour. Not the best idea! She didn't see me and gunned it to get across the three lanes of traffic and my poor Honda didn't survive. The airbags went off, I spun through traffic and hit another car. I was immediately grateful I hadn't picked up the girls yet. I was fine, just some awesome bruises from the airbags. The insurance company officially declared it dead today. RIP Honda, we loved your gas mileage!

Last night we rode our bikes over to the park and Kate got stung by a bee. She was so mad! She just could not understand why a bee would do that to her. After a few minutes of crying, we decided to head home and she says to us, "I hate bees so much that I am never wearing that dang costume ever again!!"

I loved, loved, loved Hunger Games and the sequel Catching Fire. I couldn't wait til the third and final book came out. I stayed up all night reading, I couldn't put it down. And I am disappointed. It wasn't what I wanted it to be. And it gave me nightmares. There's nothing worse than being let down.........

Cave Explorers

This weekend we went to Great Basin National Park to visit Lehman Caves. It was a scenic 4 hour drive, just kidding, has anyone ever driven past Delta? Wow! There is nothing but a straight road and desert. Thank you portable DVD player! It was great weather and fun to see things we had never seen. The cave was awesome and the girls loved it. There was a river in our campground that Kate loved and most everyone took a hike to see these trees that dated back to 200 BC. Most of all, I loved spending time with my family, my wonderful in laws and my favorite brother.....

Kate had her first dance recital last night. I was a nervous wreck. At class, she is easily distracted and likes to play with her dance friends instead of actually dancing. I really didn't think that she would dance, but she got up there like a pro and danced her little heart out. She only had a few times where she was distracted and we only had one random twirl thrown in. I was beaming with pride. How did my tiny baby become that little girl on stage in front of all these people?

He shops at REI exclusively
He is making his own compost in our backyard
He is super excited about composting
He uses terms like renewable resource
He buys socks made from wool because wool is a renewable resource
He owns antibacterial underwear
He would rather backpack in remote areas of Wyoming than go to the beach
We have to borrow the neighbors empty recycle bin to fit all of our recyclables
He owns more lightweight backpacking gear than he knows what to with
He is excited about compost!!!
After reading this post, he gave me more reasons on why he is such a granola!

Leah is 6 1/2 months old and 17 pounds. She is big and round and hates tummy time passionately. She would just lay there and cry. We called her our turtle because she would get stuck on her tummy and not move. This was a personal embarrassment because I spend a lot of time at work helping children meet their developmental milestones on time! Last week, she finally did it. I really thought she wasn't ever going to do it, so I am so proud she is not part turtle!!

One of my very best friends found out this weekend that her almost three year old has Leukemia. It was a heart stopping moment. I see sick kids everyday, but Chase is a kid that I love, that I consider family. It is so different when it's someone you love. Please pray for little Chaser man and his family. Today at work I visited with a mom who lost her daughter this summer. She was 13 and on dialysis, this is how I knew her. She had a beautiful smile and laughed at her doctors. Now this family has found out that their two sons have the same disease. They are starting all over again and so scared. I haven't seen them since the funeral. Her mom could barely look at me, she was so tearful, but still managed to ask about Kate and Leah. Over the last few week at the hospital, I have spent a little time with my cute friend, Liz. Her daughter just received a liver from someone else's daughter who died too young. Liz's story is heartbreaking, but has a happy ending. She has dealt with it with such grace. She is simply amazing and I think about her and her daughter everyday. I just put to bed my two beautiful, healthy daughters and can't help but feel so extremely grateful for my family. Tonight I will say a prayer for all those who are hurting and say thank you that I am not.

Like I said before, it's not my typical book, but I loved every word. The third book comes out in August. I'm going to have a hard time waiting....

I just finished two good books that happen to be written by my cousin. They were both great reads. I reallythink this and am not just promoting my talented cousin! Enigma is written on a younger level, written for the junior high crowd and is about a guy who wakes up one day and everyone around him gets knocked unconscious. It is a super creative story, I really can't compare it to anything else I've read.

Sunset is a more adult book about a girl who falls in love and finds out she not as human as she thought. Again, this is a really creative book and I couldn't put it down. Both of these books are available on lulu.com and amazon.com. Author is JB Fisher. Check 'em out!!

Why did I love this book? It's about teenagers in a fight to the death battle that the government uses as a "game" to remind the lowly citizens who's in charge. So not my thing, but I loved every word.

Instead of decorating our freshly cut tree from the cabin tonight, we spent time at the new Riverton Hospital getting stitches. Kate pulled on a stocking and the holder landed right on her little head. She was super brave and I was really proud of her.

Princesses on Ice

Kate and I were lucky enough to go to Princesses on Ice today with our best friends. Susan bought tickets for and early birthday present for Kate and we went with Jamie, Whitney, Cimberly, Cadence, and Susan. It was one of my best moments as a mom, watching Kate's face filled with pure joy as she watched her favorite characters. She cried, she laughed, and waved good-bye to all her friends at the end. It was pure magic!!

This was the big wedding scene at the end. It was the icing on the cake.

What's in a name?

Justin was never crazy about the name Leah. He felt that people would call her Lea, pronounced LAY-ah. We made a point to look up other spellings of the name and Justin thought that Leia would create less confusion about how it was pronounced. Since he didn't like the name to begin with, I let him win the battle so I could win the war. Since the baby has been born, about 10 people have called her Lea, based on the spelling. As of tonight, her name is officially spelled Leah, pronounced LEE-ah. Now I just have to change the fresh ink on the birth certificate!!!

Baby Leah decided she didn't want to wait til Thursday. My water broke about midnight on Tuesday and I had her about 8:00 the next morning. She is huge!! 8 pounds 10 ounces and 21 inches long!! I am not sure how I grew such a big baby. Kate was only 7 pounds 2 ounces. She looks just like Kate did and we are surviving our first few days. Thanks to everyone for all they have done in the last few days. We love you!

Yesterday, my beautiful friend Whitney (who is more like my sister) got married and asked me to be a bridesmaid. This was brave on her part since I am 9 months prego. The wedding was beautiful, beautiful bride, weather, location and I was honored to be part of it.

Kate is very into girly things these days. We talk all day about princesses, weddings (especially to her boyfriend Eric from The Little Mermaid), ball gowns, pretty hair, and anything else a princess would do. This is her ball gown from tonight, made from a blanket.

She made her hair pretty by herself after she found a box of clips that I make bows out of. There were probably had 30 hair clips in her hair that she had dipped in water. She was really proud to come and show me what she had done.

One of the indoor activities that Kate and I did was dinner at McDonald's on Saturday night for a little playplace action. It was really quiet and we had been there for a while when a grandma brought her two grandkids in. We were the only people there and she was very chatty. After a while, she noticed that I was pregnant and she asked if I knew what I was having. I told her it was another girl and she responded with "Wow, your husband must be really good in bed!" Excuse me?!? She then went on to tell me that there have been studies done to prove that men who are good in bed (her words were "creative") produced girls. She added in some very graphic details that I'll spare you. She also told me a few times how lucky I was to be married to a man like that. Needless to say, we left soon after that. You never know what you'll learn at McDonald's on a random Saturday night...

That's all I really have to say about this weekend. Justin spent the weekend with his friends backpacking, so Kate and I had a girls weekend. I picked things that were indoors and air conditioned!! We are patiently waiting for baby Leah to make her arrival and hoping to make it through the next few HOT months. Who's idea was it to get pregnant when we did?

Kyle Korver from the Jazz came to my work today. He spent some time with the kids on dialysis and in transplant clinic just because it was a nice thing to do. He was so cute with the kids that I have decided to leave my Dancing with the Stars boyfriend for Kyle. Now that it is the off season, we have plenty of time to hang out. I'm sure he won't mind that I am almost 7 months pregnant!!

These two are such good friends, they play everything, even though Dad doesn't always prefer Barbie's, dress up and nail painting. She tells me all the time how much she loves her daddy. We are making progress on the potty! Kate picked out Wedding Day Barbie at the store and had to fill up her potty chart before she opened it. She did it in two and a half days. We are so proud of her! Now were are working for Barbie clothes. Here's to bribing your children!!

What is scarier than Bri, Abbie, and me in a big city all alone? Bri, Abbie, and me in a big city all alone relying on public transportation and the dad's at home alone with the kids!! We are leaving for Boston tomorrow morning and we will hopefully return on Sunday, if us small town girls can make it on our own! Thank goodness Abbie is coming, she is a lot more well traveled than me. I'll post pictures of our big adventure next week!!

Happy Mother's Day to you! It's a quiet morning at our house, Kate slept over at Grandma Tina's so we are just relaxing waiting for them to get home. Yesterday, while Justin was working on the yard, we found a bird nest in one of our trees with five baby birds. The mom wasn't happy we were checking them out, but we had to get a picture! Hope everyone has a great day!

Kate's new obsession is changing diapers on every baby and animal in the house, complete with wipes and powder. All weekend we played "change diager" pronounced like that. Too bad she likes them so much, I want her to potty train!!

I love Dancing with the Stars. It's cheesy, I know, but it makes me dream of being a dancer. I love Derek and even though his partner is Little Kim and I almost couldn't stand looking at her last night, I forgive him and move on. So FYI, I am busy for the next 2 months on Monday nights.

Hardware Ranch

Yesterday we spent the day in Logan with our good friends Brett and Bri and went to Hardware Ranch. It was a beautiful day and we spent time checking out the elk that hang out during the winter. There were about 400 elk there and we took a little ride around the field and got really close. It was super fun and we had the best time hanging with our friends we don't see very much.

So, most of you know this anyways, but I am officially announcing the I am pregnant! I am almost 11 weeks, due September 23. Justin and I went to the doctor this morning. She did a quick ultrasound and I saw my little muffin's heartbeat and stubby arms wiggling. It's so relieving to see that and know that everything looks good so far. We are very excited and feel very grateful. Now we just have to get Kate excited about sharing her Daddy. That one might be tough!

I like to peek at Kate before I go to bed because she is so sweet when she sleeps. This is what I saw the other night. Sleeping sideways on a balled up blanket and snuggling with a Cabbage Patch doll named "New Baby" because she was new when we got her. This is why I check on her to capture sweet moments like this!

We celebrated birthday's this weekend. Kate is 2 (break my heart) on Monday the 12th and Justin's 30 (!!) on Tuesday the 13th. This weekend all the grandparents came over and celebrated with pizza and cake.

Kater- you are the sweetest little girl. You have changed us forever and we are so glad to have you in our family. You are sweet, funny, talkative, friendly, fun, and amaze us everyday. Happy Birthday, my little love.

Well, most of you know that Red Rover is no longer. Justin worked for his friend Cameron tirelessly for the past two years and we found out a few days ago it's no longer. We are incredibly sad. Red Rover was a great experience for Justin and we have no regrets. Justin is being welcomed back to his old job at Land Rover Centerville, so our little family will continue to thrive. It's hard to say good-bye to something that you worked so hard at. We will miss the laughter, the flexibility, and the short commute :)...good-bye Red Rover.
